We’ve all heard of poetry. Maybe you’ve written a rhyme for your child’s school speech or helped your child recite lines for a school play.

Either way – do you know how poetry benefits children?

Poetry plays with words in a magical way that enrich your child’s imagination!

Children who are exposed to poetry from an early age, develop their creative skills in an enjoyable way that has the following benefits:

• Children’s language and literacy skills are developed by being exposed to new words and different ways in which sentences can be used.

• Rhymes plant a seed that nurtures a love for words, teaching children about phonetics, word families, and speech patterns. They learn to use new words in various contexts.

• Children who memorize rhymes boost their ability to remember by strengthening their memory.

• Poetry plays an important role in emotional development, as it can help with emotional release – since emotions are often expressed through poetry. In this way, children learn to express themselves and how to process their feelings.

Fun on the farm!

Pig says oink
and plays all day
cow says moo
and eats some hay

Horse says neigh
and runs so fast
chicken clucks
then lays an egg at last

Sheep says baa
with wool soft and white
the farmer works
from morning light

He drives the tractor
plants the seeds
and cares for all
their daily needs
